Do you ever just wonder? A Rhodes Scholar. I kid you not, but evidence of obedience rather than thinking. How do you know that, you ask? Well, let me tell you….
First, isn’t it curious how everybody recognizes the claims Indigenous Tribes have on various lands but NO ONE mentions colonialism and its consequent damage inflicted on Indigenous People?
Nor, how fighters of the institutions and practises constructed by colonialism are actually Freedom Fighters, but labelled terrorists by the imperial powers that created those colonial structures in the first place? Nor, how that’s actually a big deal for Canada.
We are not an imperialist nation, but agree with, or are still obedient to, powers that colonized Canada. We have a Governor-General, the King is on our money and we live with the nonsensical belief we are free, but can’t even change a law without monarchical authority. There is a reason our national character is a little schizoid. Morally confused?
Israel is a colonial construct. Be it the founding of Israel in 1948 or recognition of the Balfour Declaration in 1916, the current conflict in Israel cannot be considered without context. The legitimacy of Israel is not the point, but the absconded land that is the issue. People were on that land and, like the Indigenous Activists in Canada, are furious at its theft. After a 100 years? The Canadian Indigenous are still fighting after 300. HAMAS is just a Freedom Fighter Collective. It sounds terrible labelled terrorist, but a label the colonial powers are interested in sustaining, so, the colonial basis for the conflict is not examined.
Because, then, the World would realize the whole of West Asia is a powder keg…
The whole continent was colonized, monarchical authorities created, borders arbitrarily manufactured. Afghanistan? The Taliban are in government, there, now. A result of Freedom fighters? A product of the overthrow of CIA contrivance? I don’t know. Is it a big deal FM Joly condemns the country’s treatment of Women, taking potshots at the cons as she does: https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/joly-takes-shots-at-conservative-rhetoric-during-un-speech-1.7056871. Domestic politicking at the UN is unseemly, never a good look. And, petty.
Or, is it really just evidence of the IRBO and FM Joly judging the actions of another sovereign country?
Afghanistan has applied to join the BRICS: https://www.barrons.com/news/afghanistan-wants-to-join-brics-says-taliban-govt-eb6a9150. To quote: Countries with major resources and the world's biggest economies are associated with the BRICS forum, especially Russia, India, and China," said Hamdullah Fitrat, a government deputy spokesman.(on behalf of Foreign Affairs)
"Currently, we have good economic ties and commercial exchanges with them. We are keen to expand our relations and participate in the economic forums of the BRICS," he said.
Canada will not be at BRICS in Kazan. Rather than have a Foreign Minister, a smart and capable woman compelling the attention of the Taliban at the BRICS Summit, Canada’s FM Joly will be hosting a Women’s Summit in Toronto criticizing governments like it. Pompously? Doing nothing?
CBC has this about Women politicians in Afghanistan: https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/afghan-female-politcians-come-to-canada-1.7340993 And, no consideration of the Afghan interpreters who helped our Military and weren’t helped by the government. MPs? I am not at all saying Women politicians shouldn’t be helped, but picking and choosing battles is evidence of the IRBO and that is what is causing problems.
And, highlighting the absence of sovereignty in some country’s actions. Ours.
From CBC: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/united-nations-israel-gaza-1.7334158. Canada condemns Russia but turns a blind eye to Israel’s behaviour? To quote Chile’s President Boric: "Human rights cannot be judged according to which dictator or president happens to be violating them, whether it happens to be [Benjamin] Netanyahu in Israel or [Nicolás] Maduro in Venezuela, whether it's [Daniel] Ortega in Nicaragua or [Vladimir] Putin in Russia.
International Law is falling a part, arguably because despots are becoming popular but equally as possible because governments, like ours, pontificate about the IRBO like it’s the same thing. And, have the right to choose when or to whom to apply whichever Law . I emphasize International Law and the IRBO are not the same thing, and it has been extremely misleading confusing the two.
And, politically damaging in the arbitary application of either.
So, the UN press site had this: https://press.un.org/en/2024/ga12639.doc.htm and not a word about it in our media (that I noticed). And, which UN press release particularly confronts the Western double standard which is underscored by imperial colonialism. Note Canada’s absence despite CARICOM’s participation. And, noticeable because of FM Joly’s speech mention above.
Barbados PM, 3 years ago:
To think of Barbados as a pawn is disingenuous.
To think of Canada as anything but a pawn is self-deceiving. We don’t do anything but follow directions. Do as we’re told. Notice?
Has Canada done anything lately on its own? Shown courage, fortitude, moral backbone? Sovereignty? And, we are not a weak minded People.
But, really, what has FM Joly said? Demonstrated? So, why would anyone think differently?
The IRBO is being kicked aside and there is a degree of masochism to Canada clinging to it. Sycophancy to the Americans?
