Canada Shore
Edgar, I got you confused with your late cousin, Paul. My sincerest condolences. Money makes no difference.
I bet you’re glad you didn’t get the Paramount streaming service, last summer: https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/edgar-bronfman-submits-rival-bid-acquire-paramount-global-2024-08-20/ (bid), https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/edgar-bronfman-pulls-out-race-acquire-paramount-2024-08-27/ (retraction). I suspect your bid was refused because you’re not American, and things were just semantically reworked to avoid saying that.
Americans are VERY nationalistic, but I don’t think they like admitting they discriminate, even the billionaire class, on those grounds.
Just to quote you: We continue to believe that Paramount Global is an extraordinary company, with an unrivaled collection of marquee brands, assets and people," Bronfman said in a statement. "While there may have been differences, we believe that everyone involved in the sale process is united in the belief that Paramount's best days are ahead. (from the retraction)
I wonder if you were being ironic?
Clearly, Paramount does not have original thinkers with the new owners. If a reworking of a tired concept, just placed in Canada, a country with 2 DEFINED seasons, blizzard and forest fire, and 2 tentative, almost winter and almost summer, sub-categories, the service does not look to become profitable. First, cause of my bias, biggest problem with capitalism: why look for the the new when you can rely on standard ways to profit?
Why television rarely has new ideas.
But, really?
Canada doesn’t have a ‘Shore.’ We have Halifax? Cape Breton? Maybe surfing in Tofino? Does Nunavut even have a coast line? And, Sauble Beach, maybe Wasaga Beach in Ontario? Why copy an idea and expect success just because it’s worked before?
Like changing location updates the concept?
I don’t know how to phrase this. Do People forget lightening only strikes once? A successful idea is not where the profit lies, but in the guy who thought of it?
No one notice Canadians came up with SCTV, Lorne Michaels of SNL is Canadian, Ken Finkleman came up with the original Newsroom?
Canada doesn’t need a revamped Jersey Shore, Canadians come up with Great Ideas on their own.
Letterkenny is brilliant; Little Mosque on the Prairie was an ORIGINAL idea I think People were scared of maintaining and anyone forget the unusual, IMO, The Trailer Park Boys?
Canadians KNOW how to laugh, surviving winter fertilizes humour. We tend to produce depressing writers (Stone Angel, Room) because some People have to cry to make it.
Jim Carrey is one of the best Canadians for demonstrating openmindedness (to new ideas), not for being in The Mask or In Living Color, but able to see the creative opportunity both inspired.
Ed, I think you’re well shot of Paramount, it’s future does not look promising. Its owners are reaching backwards to find success. And, that’s not where it is.
