Canada
This is an odd post. I like Canada, it’s home, not the issue, it’s why does OUR government think everybody is spying on us.
To begin with the obvious, why would China, a country of 1.4 BILLION people, or India with the same number, be interested in us? Populations of 1.4 BILLION verses our 40 MILLION?
What do WE have that might be of interest to either of them?
Education?
There are not as many Chinese students coming here (sadly, I think that’s because we’re following the American agenda, and that’s just st$#@, IMO). They’re generally reducing in number, anyhow. States, too.
Schools are better in China.
Indian students, apparently, ARE coming, here, but we’ve put a cap on their numbers, so, not as many are welcome?
Maybe it doesn’t mean anything, but the Indian High Commission in Ottawa has issued a warning about Students coming to Canada: https://www.hciottawa.gov.in/pdf/menu/Advisory_new_21Apr22_NK.pdf.
A lot of OUR schools have been making money off International Students. Ontario Premier Ford is a bit rich, saying he wants Canadian Students, but historically depriving Universities, Colleges and Training schools of funding, so, incentivizing the need for money. The profiteering model of schools? And, thus, the expansion of private schools to also generate the bucks off the Education system, and Students willing to pay.
No offense to Indian Students, but I can’t help but wonder if Indian Kids come to private schools, here, to evade exams for ALL post-secondary schools, there. And, I bet their number dropping, already. Cause of the eduction profit model. No one wants to be cheated.
I never trust our government figures, anyhow.
But the point is actually, whatever controversies there may be with India, I could see one in Education.
But China and India spying on us? During elections? In order to what?
Again, to point the obvious, India and China are on the other side of the planet. Why would they come here to spy on us? What influential information do we have that they could possibly need or want?
Russia, I get, no disrespect, they’re interested in the Arctic. Maybe they would spy? But, Ukraine is their focus. The States, again, no disrespect, they’re neighbours and the information might be useful, but I get the impression they’ve got their own domestic issue to be dealt with before being bothered with us.
But, 2 huge countries from the other side of the planet?
You know in January, our Ambassador to China spoke to the CBC about Foreign Interference: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/foreign-interference-inquiry-china-canada-1.7088853. She discussed a lot of paranoid factors, in my view, but admitted China only took the Opiod Crisis seriously. They have the same drug problem? An area of bilateral concern?
Anything change in that arena justifying intensified Chinese interest?
Today, we’re accusing India and Pakistan of Foreign Interference: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/pakistan-india-elections-canada. To quote: CSIS alleges that in 2021, the Indian government's foreign interference activities "were centred on a small number of electoral districts." The government of India targeted those ridings, CSIS wrote, because there was a perception by India that "a portion of Indo-Canadian voters were sympathetic to the Khalistani movement or pro-Pakistan political stances.
Isn’t that actually Khalistani Canadians involvement in politics? And, police just becoming aware?
No one is spying on us. No one is interested.
And, I think Canadian politicos are ‘peacocking,’ trying to look very important on the world stage, to the domestic audience, when we are not.
Waste of time and a lot of money on commissions no one is willing to criticize.
Again, to point to the obvious, today, Israel demanded the Canadian Court get involved with OUR UNWRA decision: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/advocates-take-canada-to-court-unrwa-funding-1.7164249. Basically, a tiny country intimidating us, and it makes the news.
Yet, we are expecting 2 HUGE countries to nonetheless spy?
In all seriousness, we believe they would? Who are we trying to impress? It doesn’t me much.
